Keep Wrestling In The Olympics

Author's Note: This piece is a persuasive piece on why the I.O.C should keep wrestling in the Olympics. In this I was looking to have good word choice and comma use.

The sport of wrestling originated since prehistoric times. It was the first sport known to man. Not only was it a sport that started the Olympics but it has formed many cultures throughout  the world. Taking this sport out of the 2020 Olympics was a choice made by the International Olympic Committee on Tuesday, February  12, 2013. Not only did this decision effect many people’s favorite sport, but it ruined many people’s hopes and dreams.

This past summer I spent a lot of time watching the 2012 London  Olympics. Watching the Olympics is like watching something you’ve never seen before its where dreams and goals can be achieved or hearts can be broken. Among all of these sports in the Olympics wrestling is my favorite.  It is one of the hardest sports and may be the most technical sport. It is made up of grappling, take downs, locks and pins. Every wrestler has their own way of wrestling in mans oldest sport.

In the sport of wrestling there is no professional level. This means that many people strive to make it to the Olympics. Without wrestling in the Olympics it will affect the sport in the many different levels. When collage wrestling is over what is next for the wrestlers? What about the Olympic training centers or the workers who work at those places they will all lose their jobs. This will also affect many countries like Turkey or Iran where most of their lives revolve around the sport.

I know that Olympic wrestling doesn’t pull in enough money for the I.O.C, but they need to look at the big picture and how many people this decision will effect. Not only will it be the wrestlers ,but the people and countries that revolve around the sport.

Hard Work Pays Off

Author’s Note: This piece is a short story on Wrestling. In this I wanted to show good sentence fluency and word choice.

From the sound of fans cheering to the smell over rubber from the mat at practice nothing beats wrestling. Many people considering wrestling a sport where you go out and try to pin your opponent to the mat. Wrestling is much more than that, It is a sport of one on one intense combat with many technical moves.

Wrestling doesn’t only help you with your physical stage it also helps with the mental stage. Teaching you that with working hard you can achieve great things. Many look as wrestling as a individual sport however I feel there is no better team sport. To have successes as a team you have to be able to work hard together and push each other to reach their potential.

When it comes to tournaments and matches you get to really see if your hard work paid off. Reason being when you finish off the match with a win and the referee raises you there is no better feeling and at that moment you know that all the hard work paid off.

Statement of Faith

Author's Note: This piece is my Statement of Faith and  It will show how I will live my life as a Christan.

The first time I went to church I didn’t know what faith was all about, I was too young. My parents tell me Galilee Lutheran church was my first stop on my way home from the hospital, after I was just born.  It was at this time that I was introduced to our church and Pastor Rasmussen. My parents continued to take me to church and I started Sunday school at the age of three. Living in a household and family of Christians, I was always taught to believe in God.   Now that I have gotten older, I have really been able to dig into the word and grow in my faith as an individual.  This is what I believe….

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.”  Proverbs 3:5-6  I choose this bible verse because I feel that if I trust in God with passion and dedication he will guide me throughout my life and all the difficulties I will face.   Some of the ways I acknowledge God are by going to church, praying, serving others and learning God’s word.  I truly believe that if I trust in the Lord, he will help guide my life as a Christian.  God already has my path planned.
I believe that there is one God and one God only. "O Lord, there is none like You, nor is there any God besides You" 1 Chronicles 17:20

I believe that Jesus came into this world as a baby and was the son of God.  He was born in a manger in Bethlehem.  I also believe that Jesus was sent by God to spread the word and died on a cross for our sins.  He rose from the dead and ascended into Heaven.

I believe you can seek God through prayer.  I think that when I pray, God is listening to me.  I believe prayer is a way to thank, bless and ask God for guidance.  Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ JesusPhilippians 4:6-7

Many people live their everyday lives wondering what it really means to be a Christian. I believe not only is a Christian devoted to Christ, but also someone who goes out of their way to do something that Christ would appreciate.  As I continue to grow in my faith, I to try to make choices that God would be proud of.  When I make bad choices, I know that God is still there and that he will forgive my sins.  “In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace” Ephesians 1:7

As I continue on through my life, I will strive to live a life that God would want by spreading the word not only to my family, but to friends and acquaintances. I will pray to God when I want to thank him, ask for something or talk to him. I will continue to go to church on Sundays and do what I can to help. I will help others as Jesus did and try to make others look to God as I do. By doing these things I will live a meaningful life and God will look down on me with joy and happiness.

Ice Heaven

Author's Note: This piece is a personal narrative/ experience about ice fishing and how much I love it. I wanted to show what it’s like to be ice fishing and why I like it. In this piece I wanted to show good description words and sentence fluency.

As the temperature drops and the ice beings to glass the lake, hundreds of people head out onto the ice looking to strike it rich with big fish. As you look out onto the  ice and the shanties dot the lake. With the smell of a tailgate party in the air nothing beats a day on the ice.

In the sport of ice fishing there isn’t much skill needed at all, but that is some of the fun of it. When we finish drilling the holes and set up the tip ups, we tend to go in by the shacks and enjoy the fun of ice fishing. Such as riding the four wheeler around the lake in search for a good time. We also like to play intense games of tack football, no matter what we're doing we always have fun.

While the tackle football games we play and four wheel rides we take are quite fun, you may wonder why we sit out on the ice for hours upon hours. When the flag goes up and somebody yells tip up,  there is no better thrill.

Ice fishing is more than something to do or waste your time on.  It’s a blast and I will always remember the fun times I’ve had on the ice. I wouldn't trade the memories for anything.

The Hunted

Author's Note: This piece is a point of view I really wanted to emphasize the point of view for the deer and the things it goes through. I also wanted to show good punctuation.

When the deer hunting season begins many excited hunters pack up and head north hoping to have great hunting season. Many people enjoy the sport of hunting and invest lots of money and numerous hours of work to prepare for the season.  Every morning hunters load their weapons and embark on an adventure to their tree stand.  However, have you ever wondered the deers point of view while being hunted.

As we walk into the field at the break of daylight I heard loud cracks in all directions. This seems to happened every year but it hasn’t for months on end. As I finish up eating the frozen corn I go back into the thick forest. As I enter the woods with caution I smell something out of the ordinary. After a few more smells I realize its time to head in another direction. Today the woods seemed a little peculiar there was a lot of ruckus and odd things.

Then I decided to head down the valley to bed for the day. On my way down I was cautious to try not to startle anyone as I walked I heard a loud rustle. I second guess myself and looked again it was a huge buck walking away with blood running down his back legs. I asked him” What happened to you?” he said” I was shot by a hunter and stay away from the field there are hunters everywhere”. As he started leave I said” Is there anything I can do to help you” he said No, just stay away from that field”. I felt terrible just letting him walk by but like he said there is nothing I could have done to help him.

Selfish as it sounds I decided to go back up to the field reason being I was starving and it was my only option. When my head popped up over the ridge I heard a “Bang” before I knew it I was hurt and hurt bad. My only option was to bed down in the valley where clearly I should have stayed. When I got down there I was In pain and didn’t know what to do so I took two deep breaths and that was history.

I had been hunting a long frigid weekend with not much action at all. I was in my last afternoon and decided to head out after the Packers game. I had only been sitting for a few hour and I saw brown moving in the distance. I decided to wait until he got over the ridge, as he finally popped his head out I lined my  cross hair up on his heart then I slightly pull the trigger and slam a cloud of smoke filled the air in front of me. Before I go a glimpse he was gone into the deep dark forest.

I waited till pitch dark and embarked for my grandpas tree stand it was an exciting walk to tell him the news. As I got to the stand I said “ Grandpa I think I got one lets go look by where I shot him” with joy he replied “ let’s go get him”. As we got there I saw a great blood trail after a  few hundred yard of tracking I looked into the valley and there he was. I ran up to my grandpa in joy he said” congratulations on the deer”. As I walked up I saw it was a nice northern Wisconsin buck.

Many people say that is not fair or not right to hunt, but imagine the world without it what other ways would there be for them to go? Disease, starvation, predators or even worse car accidents. When it’s all said and I think deer hunting is a very fun, enjoyable and humane thing to do.

Hard Work Pays Off

Author’s Note: In the book “ The Blind Side” written by” Michael Lewis” Michael struggled through many different things to get to where he is now, but none of this would of happened without his determination.  I would also like for you to look for good word choice and a good thesis in this piece.

Michael Oher was struggling with his poverty filled life in Memphis, Tennessee. Michael couldn’t go a night without seeing drugs or other illegal things. Many people know Michael’s story and wonder what it was like to have to go through what Michael did. His story has many meanings, but I feel the theme in this book is determination to change for the better. Without his hard work ethic and determination Michael would not be where he is today.

Before Michael  moved in with the Tuohy’s he really wasn’t loved by anybody he had no one to look to and that’s why he got in so much trouble. He looked to the wrong people, so when he was adopted he had someone to look up to a real family something he never had. Having that Michael changed his acts drastically  witch lead him to acting better and making better choices.

Another factor that came upon me was his determination to do good in school. Michael started in school with a .04 grade point average and had no chance at all to go to college and play sports. When Michael found out how great of a athlete he really was he knew he had to get his grades up.. With the extra help and a harder work ethic Michael just made the minimum grade point average and pursued his football career at Ole Miss University.

When Michael was brought up by the Tuohy’s he was a very non confident sigh person. When he found out he was a gifted football player people started to like him and when that happened he started to gain confidents which was good on and off the football field. When his confident was boosted he was also more confident to change and stick up to the people that brought him down.

Like Michael Stevie Wonder a world famous singer and pianist is one of the most inspiring and determined people I’ve ever heard of. You might wonder what about him makes me feel that way.  Stevie was blind and deaf nothing came easy, but Stevie was gifted musician. Turns out he is one of the best musicians known to man. None of this would of happen. If not for Stevie’s hard work ethic and determination Stevie.

When things go in the wrong direction such as they did for Michele and Stevie there’s always a way to overcome that. It might sound easy , but with a hard work ethic and determination you can go further than anyone could imagine
